The Gecko at the Nature Center
Because of the dried up condition of the place, animal life was conspicuously absent. This gecko was the only animal we saw in the entire area. (My online friend Mylx, who owns a gecko named 'Lucky', is probably the only one who will be impressed by this shot.)

Fire Damage at Lake Okeechobee
The dryness caused by the extended drought resulted in many fires during winter 2001. Some of the worst were in the normally marshy regions on and around the southwestern part of Lake Okeechobee, the large lake in south-central Florida. Here you can see some of the damage these fires did to this normally beautiful area.
This picture and the next two were taken from a small boat during a ride around the area.
