WALGUY'S REVIEW:
As with many SVU episodes, this one is not for the young or the
squeamish. It deals with its mature themes in a reasonably sensitive
way, but those themes are still very mature, accompanied by little
real entertainment value. I would not have wanted to watch this
episode if Bailey hadn't been in it. No matter how well written and
well acted something like this is (and this was), the subject matter
is still sickening.
Bailey's role in this episode was similar to the one she played on
'Law and Order' a year earlier, the main difference being that this
character also had the flu. Despite the similarity, however, Bailey
constructed a very different person out of the basics of the part, and
in the process demonstrated her range as an actor in an impressive
fashion. In addition, people who have the flu generally don't look
very good no matter how beautiful they may be normally. It's another
testimony to Bailey's acting skill that in this role she managed to
appear sick very convincingly, and yet still look cute and charismatic
at the same time. It was simply an excellent performance all around.
